Internet Articles Database » Where To Get Designer Accessories For …

May 13th, 2012

In today’s economy, it seems that customers are always looking for ways to save money on their purchases. While some people go to extremes to save money by spending hours clipping coupons and matching them with in-store sales, others are happier to save a few dollars here and there. There are many ways to get designer accessories for less if you know where to look and have the patience necessary to score a great deal.

Online Auction Sites

Perhaps one of the most popular ways to acquire brand name merchandise for a fraction of the price is to peruse the many available items on online auction sites. Not only are the sites a great place to find in-season merchandise and the latest designer trends, but they are also great places to find vintage or one-of-a-kind accessories from the past. Registration on these sites is typically free, and you can begin to bid on items as soon as the site verifies and confirms both your information and registration. While most of these online auction sites do a great job of catching and banning members that sell fake merchandise, faux merchandise does show up from time to time on these sites. This is why it is extremely important to check all sellers’ feedback ratings to ensure that they have a high percentage rate for selling authentic quality merchandise. Customers can save anywhere from 20 to 70 percent off of top-quality designer accessories when shopping the online auction sites.

Local Consignment and Vintage Boutiques

Anyone who has a love and appreciation for high-quality, vintage designer accessories can strike gold at local consignment and vintage stores. Unlike non-profit thrift stores that sell just about everything that is donated to them, vintage and consignment stores are filled with top-quality, brand name, and specially-selected merchandise from the most well-known designers. While rare finds can be found at thrift stores, it often takes a lot of time, patience and digging to find a rare designer gem.

Vintage store managers and employees are often very knowledgeable about both the current in-store inventory and where to obtain rare items. They can often locate special items for customers with just a few phone calls. Similarly, consignment store owners and employees are often very knowledgeable about current brands and trends. They can help customers find the perfect designer accessories from recent collections. Vintage and consignment store owners also go to great lengths to ensure the authenticity of each item before selling it in their stores. This takes the guesswork and frustration out of finding authentic designer accessories out in the market for less. Customers can expect to save between 50 and 80 percent off of the retail price when shopping for designer accessories in these establishments.

Garage, Estate and Yard Sales

Believe it or not, one of the best places to find great bargains on designer accessories is right in your neighbor’s front yard. Anyone with a keen eye and in-depth knowledge of authentic designer accessories can score huge savings by shopping for goods at local community yard sales, moving sales, estate sales and church auctions.

Designer items and accessories seem to be coveted even in more fragile economic times. Savvy customers can still afford designer accessories for less money if they know where to look to get the best deals.

At Home with Pamela Clare: For Mother's Day, Help A Mother's Child

May 13th, 2012

Meet Berlin. Author Julieanne Reeves told me about her.

She’s a charming little girl with a beautiful smile, a shining countenance and a debilitating disease. You see Berlin has Osteogenesis Imperfecta — Brittle Bone Disease.

Berlin was born with Brittle Bone Disease and though she’s only seven she already knows what it feels like to have a broken arm, leg, and fractured vertebra — repeatedly.  But you’d never know by speaking with her that her life is anything but normal. Even when Berlin’s slowly making her way across campus with her mobility walker, she always has a bright smile, and will shout out to friends and parents of friends with a warm welcome and a friendly wave.

But Berlin isn’t walking these days. You see, she recently fell and ended up in the hospital, where doctors discovered she’d re-fractured her tibia — the main bone in her lower leg — and a pin from a previous surgery had shifted through the bone.  That shift means that Berlin can’t walk until she has surgery.

Due to lack of insurance coverage, they treated the new fracture and sent her home, denying her the needed surgery.
Every day children right here in America go without needed medical care. Every Day. It is heart-breaking.

Don’t get me started on the issue of health care in the United States. As someone who lived in Denmark and Sweden, where health care is paid for by the state, where infant and mother mortality rates are lower, and quality of life is higher, I’ve never been able to tolerate the for-profit model we have. Ka-CHING should not be a sound associated with the saving of lives and the ending of human suffering.

But lamenting our pitiful health-care system won’t get Berlin the care she needs. Until her family can come up with a very large sum of money, she won’t get the needed surgery and will continue to be in pain and unable to walk. I am one of many authors participating in this auction, put together by Julieanne Reeves, hoping to help raise the money Berlin needs. Some incredibly generous members of the writing community and local businesses have contributed to this online auction, as well.

The auction began on Friday, May 11. To participate, or to make a simple donation, click here, and start bidding on the great gifts and services donated by award-winning and bestselling authors, artists and local businesses. You’ll find everything from signed books to “Meet and Greets” with your favorite authors and artists, and a wide array of everything in between.

In addition, there are some great items up for bid from local businesses. Don’t see anything you want to bid on? No problem, keep checking back for new auctions to be added over the next week or check out one of our donation auctions.

And thank you for caring! What better way is there to celebrate Mother’s Day then by helping a child? That’s what we moms do.

Feel free to tweet about this, to post a link to your Facebook page, to copy this text and put it on your blog or to raise awareness among your friends or in your faith communities. With determination, we can help this child.

Quick update:

Skin Deep is done! It’s in the process of being edited and proofread right now in hopes that we can get it loaded before I leave for New York next week. Right now, I’m starting the I-Team Extra, “Marc and Julian Make a Beer Run.”

If you’ve signed up for my newsletter, you’ll get an announcement when Skin Deep has gone live on Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com. (It takes a bit longer for Apple to make it live as an iBook via iTunes, but at least you’ll know to start checking.)

If you haven’t yet signed up for my newsletter, click here.

Minimum wage hike could put workers out : News : ConnectTriStates …

May 19th, 2012

QUINCY, ILL. — A Senate Committee passed a proposed bill to raise Illinois’ minimum-wage Wednesday.

Most minimum-wage employees like the idea of making more money…but there is a down side.

“I don’t know that the raise in minimum-wage is going to really balance it out, I don’t think it’s going to help anything really,” said Tom Gooding.

Gooding is a minimum wage worker at Krazy Cakes Cafe and Bakery and he’s against the proposed bill that could raise minimum-wage from $8.25 to over $10. But why is he against it? Job security.

“So if you see a 20 percent increase in wages, you’re really going to have to consider hiring less people so that you can provide for the employees that you do have,” said Mark Lammers, Hyvee on Broadway store director.

“I wouldn’t like to see it because we need all the employees here,” said Gooding. ‘”For a small business we’re awfully busy here and everybody has a really specific and important function.”

Most local business hire minimum-wage workers and they say raising wages could force them to raise prices. If they can’t make a profit they can’t hire or keep employees.

“You know it’s another way that the state of Illinois is making the business environment through out our whole state very unstable for a business owner,” said Amy Looten, executive director of the Quincy Area Chamber of Commerce. “They just never really know what’s coming next down the pipe whether it’s another increase in minimum wage or another new tax you know whatever. There’s just instability right now.”

But the Senate is hoping to make the economy stable with this bill. Supporters say the hike will put more money in workers pockets, allowing them to spend more but business owners think otherwise.

“I think once the prices go up it really doesn’t help a whole lot to put more money in people’s pockets but they have to pay more money for the goods that they’re buying,” said Billy Martin, Krazy Cakes owner.

If the bill passes wages will be increased yearly by 50 cents until 2015 making Illinois the highest minimum wage in the country.

The bill now goes to the Senate floor for a vote.
